Winter Dreams

Winter Dreams is an evocation of thoughts I have in winter when eating grouse I harvested in fall. The direct experience of harvesting my own food allows me to understand my own life as part of a broad life process in a way that the Fred Meyer shopping experience, Reality TV* and the North American middle class life cycle: eat to be healthy so you can work to earn money to buy food to eat so you can stay healthy so you can work.... simply doesn't.

By harvesting food from the land I inhabit, I become part of the land with its transformative cycles: life, death, decay, regeneration. It is the direct experience of this process that inspired Winter Dreams.

*I've not seen Reality TV. I've just heard enough about it, more than enough about it, to reference it here.
